This lovely villa is a perfect retreat for relaxing, with the fabulous pool terrace and its infinite sea views being the most prominent feature of the property, and the best place from which to enjoy the gorgeous sunsets. The design of the villa has been carefully thought out in order to bring your living area into the outdoors, so that you can fully appreciate the outstanding views at all times. Therefore there are many terraces for both sun and shade, and an ample supply of garden furniture such as tables, chairs, umbrellas and sun-loungers. The pool terrace is surrounded by a low natural stone wall, and railings with a gate which can stop the younger members of the family from accessing the pool without supervision. For “children” both young and old, the English owner has thoughtfully included a Games Room in the garage area, with table tennis, table football and a pool table. Both the spacious house and the cottage have been simply but comfortably furnished in typically Cretan style, with wooden furniture that has been made locally, and matching wood windows, doors, shutters, and kitchen cabinets. Dotted around the villa are traditional Greek clay pots and lamps on plinths. All modern conveniences have been supplied including a large surround sound TV in the villa, a DVD player, a dishwasher and a washing machine, a BBQ, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms, The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights early and late season. There is solar powered hot water or a back-up immersion heater. The majority of the large one acre garden has been left completely natural with rocks, olive and almond trees. Around the house and terraces, there are gravelled paths and many flowerbeds with a multitude of flowers and trees, including, oleander, roses, juniper, bougainvillea, camellia, geraniums and lavender. LocationKokkino Horio taverna and mini market are only 6 minutes walk from Almyrida Villa and Cottage. The family-run taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, has delicious food, and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find older locals who were used as extras in the film, and who will happily show you photos of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Just 10 minutes walk from the villa is the famous glass blowing workshop. Here you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. Almyrida Villa is just 8 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
