There are eight churches in Kefalas, some of which are historic, and the villagers celebrate with a feast day on August the 15th. On the outskirts of the village towards Drapanos there is the ruin of an ancient windmill, and you will also see many old corn threshing circles dotted around the area. Villa Petros is just 10 minutes by car to the gorgeous rocky cove at Ombrosgialos, which is famous for its turquoise water, great snorkelling, and lovely taverna nestled on the rocks. The village of Vamos which has a bank, shops and 2 great tavernas is only 5kms away, and the lovely village of Almyrida, which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach, is only 8kms away. This beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
