Shared swimming pool with 4 other small villas (Oval 10m x 5m & depth 1.60m) In a quiet corner of Almyrida village lie the quaint Olive Grove Villas that are situated Roman style around a large shared swimming pool. Xanthe’s House is set on the north east corner of the pool and is a charming and spacious 1 bedroom villa that can sleep up to 4 persons. Despite the very green setting with olive groves on 3 sides, Xanthe’s House is only 4 minutes flat walk from the sandy beach, and the varied selection of tavernas and shops of Almyrida. Xanthe’s House has a choice of 3 different terraces where you can relax and enjoy your holiday with a choice of either sun or shade. The east facing side terrace is equipped with a table and chairs and a barbeque. It is absolutely ideal for having a leisurely breakfast with some early morning sun. Growing up 1 side of the traditional wooden pergola is vine that is covered in black grapes in the summer months. The side terrace has a low natural stone wall and flowerbeds that are full of various plants and mature trees including fig, olive, oleander, colourful geraniums, and hottentot fig creeper. For afternoon sun the front patio is set just above the pool terrace and is equipped with a dining table and chairs, a sun umbrella, and sun-beds. For all day sun there is an outside staircase that leads up to the private 50m2 fully tiled roof terrace which is equipped with a table and chairs, sun-beds, and an umbrella. The roof terrace has beautiful views to the olive clad hills which surround Almyrida , the village itself, and the stunning White Mountains. Not only is the roof terrace the perfect spot for sunbathing, but it is also ideal for unwinding under the stars on the warm summer evenings that Crete is famous for. At the entrance to the property there is a large date palm, roses and bougainvillea, and dotted around the pool and main terraces there are a number of plants in traditional clay pots. Attractively furnished and well equipped by its English owners, Xanthe’s House offers the comforts of a home. The bedroom furniture has been handmade at the workshop of a local craftsman and has been stained pretty pastel blue colour. The living room has an incredibly comfortable suedette sofa for total relaxation. The villa’s windows, shutters, doors, pergolas have been made from local cypress wood in the traditional Cretan style. Many modern amenities have been provided for at Xanthe’s House including light beech wood built-in wardrobes and kitchen cabinets, satellite TV, DVD/CD player, a cooker with ceramic hob, a washing machine, a microwave, a safe, a telephone for incoming calls, and air conditioning throughout. For the cooler nights at the start and end of the season the a/c unit also double up as a heater. There is solar powered hot water or a back-up immersion heater, and a parking area set just off the small road at the side of the property. Xanthe’s House is ideal for a couple or a small family who are looking for good value and easy access to the local facilities. This villa can be either rented on its own, or for larger groups and families it can be combined with one of the other lovely villas in the small Olive Grove complex. Accommodation. Ground floor (2 steps from the pool terrace): Open plan living room, kitchen and dining area, 1 full bathroom, a utility cupboard, a front south facing terrace, and an east facing side terrace. There is a utility cupboard next to the front door that houses the washing machine, iron and ironing board, and cleaning equipment. The arch shaped front door leads off the side terrace into the living room area. There is a very comfortable tan suedette couch, a bamboo and glass coffee table (that can be used on the side terrace), 2 side tables, a telephone, a table lamp, 4 wicker armchairs with cream cushions (these can be used on the side terrace), a TV/DVD/VCR cabinet that doubles up as a wine rack, a ceiling fan/light, and a dining table and chairs which seat 4. There is a set of double doors that open out onto the south facing terrace that is adjacent to the pool. The east facing terrace is equipped with arm chairs, a table, and a barbeque. The south facing terrace adjacent to the large swimming pool and is fully equipped with a dining table and chairs, a sun umbrella, and sun-beds. The modern kitchen area is fully equipped and includes an electric cooker with a ceramic hob, a fridge/freezer, a microwave, a coffeemaker, a kettle, a Brita water filter jug, and a toaster. The kitchen window faces east and looks out over the side terrace. Just off the living room, and next to the bedroom door, is the fully tiled bathroom. The bathroom has a full bath with a shower attachment which has a massage head, a white washbasin, a mirrored cabinet, a toilet, and a pretty frosted window made from glass bricks. The bedroom has 2 pastel blue twin beds that can be zipped together to make a double bed, 2 overhead reading lamps, 2 matching pastel blue bedside cabinets with green reading lamps a full length mirror, and floor to ceiling built-in wardrobes with hanging space, drawers, shelves, a safe and a first aid kit. The bedroom has double doors that open out to the front terrace and swimming pool. Roof/Sun Terrace (18 steps up from the front terrace): Fully tiled with sun-beds, dining table and 4 chairs, and a sun umbrella. LocationThe heart of the village of Almyrida is only 300m from Xanthe’s House, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 4 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. A few minutes by car from Xanthe’s House, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio , lace makers in Gavalohori , and silk makers in Kalamitsi . For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car. Villa amenities

Not completely private as the villa is located in the village and is part of a small complex. Nearest neighbour? The 4 other small villas in the same complex. Almyrida beach and facilities are within easy walking distance, and there is a limited bus service into Chania , but we recommend car hire in order to explore the varied regions of the area. |
