1 double bedroom with king-size bed, 1 twin bedroom. Private swimming pool (8 x 4meters & depth 0.7m – 2.00m) Villa Troodos is a pretty split level villa that is the perfect romantic retreat for any couple. The villa is also a lovely place for a small family who value their privacy. A very quaint villa which has both traditional features and all the modern comforts that you could need, including satellite TV, DVD and CD players, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a safety deposit box, mosquito screens on the bedroom windows, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season. The water is heated by either solar panel or back-up immersion heater. The sea views to the north are of Souda Bay, and the views to the south are over olive groves to Mount Drapanos. Villa Troodos has a particularly beautiful back garden and pool area, with many flowers and shrubs including mature birds of paradise plants, and a wooden back gate covered with sweet scented jasmine. The surrounding stone wall ensures total privacy and is completely covered in mature red and green ivy and creeping plants. The mosaic tiled pool is surrounded by non-slip granite flooring and is situated next to the gorgeous BBQ and seating area. Fully equipped with a stone table and chairs, the BBQ area is shaded by a pergola and large date palms. The back garden also features a wonderful rockery which has a myriad of colourful flowers and shrubs. The English owners have thoughtfully decorated the house in a very Cretan style incorporating cypress wood beamed ceilings in the bedrooms, and traditional blue and white colours throughout, including the tiles in the bathrooms, the cupboards in the kitchen, and the traditional bedspreads in the bedrooms. A selection of DVD’s, CD’s, books and puzzles has also been kindly supplied in order for you to fully enjoy your holiday. The villa is painted cream with dark blue balustrades, pergolas and balconies. There is a small (dead end) road in front of the house which is only used by a few other people accessing their villas. Behind the villa’s natural stone front wall, which is covered in fabulous red, pink and white bougainvillea, there is a large private parking area. Villa Troodos is only a 1 minute walk from the village taverna and mini market in the centre of Kokkino Horio, and is perfect for anyone who would like to be able to stroll out to dinner each night. Accommodation. Main floor (16 steps up from the parking area): Open plan living room, kitchen and dining area. The lounge area has double doors that open out onto a sea facing terrace that is covered with a pergola, and furnished with a table and chairs. The lounge has a comfortable pale blue sofa that opens out into a bed that can sleep 2 if necessary. There is also a 2 seat bamboo couch, TV/stereo unit, shelving unit with DVD’s, a glass ornament cabinet, a 2nd glass cabinet with books and puzzles, and a dining table and chairs for 4. For those cooler nights early and late season there is a Danish wood burning stove with a glass door. The modern kitchen area is fully equipped and includes a dishwasher, a ceramic hob and built in oven, a fridge, a freezer, and a microwave oven. The kitchen has a south facing window overlooking olive groves, and a door that leads out onto a terrace which has 6 steps down to the pool and garden area. Lower level (4 steps down from the kitchen): 1 double bedroom and 1 bathroom. Just down from the kitchen is a blue and white tiled bathroom, with a white shower, washbasin, mirrored cabinet, and toilet, and a small window out to the pool area. Next to the bathroom is a double bedroom with cypress wood ceilings, a pretty wrought iron style king-size bed, individual reading lights above the bed, bedside shelves, a full length mirror, and fitted cupboards and wardrobe. This bedroom has double doors which lead out onto a small terrace with sea views and steps to either the parking area or the pool area. There is also a south facing window which looks out to olive groves and the pool area. Upper level (8 steps up from the main floor (living area): 1 twin bedroom, and 1 bathroom. This blue and white tiled bathroom has a white shower, washbasin, mirrored cabinet, and toilet, and a small low level window out to the pool area. Next to the bathroom is a twin bedroom with cypress wood ceilings and floor, 2 pretty wrought iron style single beds, individual reading lights above the beds, a bedside shelf, a full length mirror, and fitted cupbpards and wardrobe. There is a north facing window which looks out to sea over the colourful bougainvillea in the front garden. LocationKokkino Horio taverna and mini market are just a 1 minute walk from Villa Troodos. The family run-taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, and has delicious food and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna (once a month at most), which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find older locals who were used as extras in the film, and they will happily show you photos of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Just 5 minutes walk from Villa Troodos is the famous glass blowing workshop. Here you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner, into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. Villa Troodos is just 8 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops, and the Villas Crete Holidays tourist office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
