1 double bedroom, 2 twin bedrooms on the ground floor or 2 double bedrooms, 3 twin bedrooms in May and August when there is the option to rent the First Floor in Conjuction with the Ground Floor. Villa Mistiko is a very rare find tucked away in a secluded and countrified setting amongst the olive groves only a few minutes walk from the sandy beach, shops and tavernas in Almyrida. This elegant villa is set at the end of a private access track in its own beautiful and expansive grounds which have views to Souda Bay and the Akrotiri Peninsula. We are pleased to be able to offer the entire ground floor of the villa, and the large swimming pool and grounds which are for the exclusive use of our guests (the owners occasionally holiday in the upstairs apartment but they only use the pool when the guests are not in residence. The owners will not be in residence in May and August).
The clever design of the villa has managed to combine both high standards and modern comforts whilst retaining a traditional and dignified feel. Terracotta floor tiles have been used throughout the villa and around the pool terrace, local stone has been used in the arches of the covered main terrace, traditional clay pots planted with geraniums are dotted around the pool terrace, and natural stone has been used for the garden walls and the edges of all the colourful flower beds. The garden combines elegant grass lawns interspersed with shady mature olive trees, natural rocky outcrops with wild almond trees, and an abundance of flowerbeds planted with a myriad of different plants and trees including bougainvillea, jasmine, birds of paradise, hibiscus, Washingtonian palms, date palms, fruit trees, ficus, umbrella plants, conifers, oleander, margarita daisies, gerber daisies and lavender. Children can safely play on the luxurious lawns, whilst adults can while away the time relaxing on a hammock under a shady olive tree with a good book. At the far side of the property, flanked by a rocky cliff and olive groves, a pergola and wooden decking have been built nestling into the side of the cliff. Accessed by a few natural rock steps, and surrounded by flowers and clay pots that have been sunk into the rocks, this terrace has the best sea views of the entire property.
The English owners have thoughtfully furnished this seaside villa using different shades of blue. The majority of the wooden furniture has been hand made at the Pemonia workshop of a local craftsman and stained a lovely shade of sea blue. The kitchen cabinets and breakfast bar have also been made to match. Villa Mistiko has all the comforts and facilities important to those wanting to spend most of their holiday close to a private pool including: a TV, a DVD player with a good selection of DVD’s, a CD player/cassette/radio, a washing machine, mosquito screens on the windows, electric shutters on the living room and double bedroom doors, a BBQ, pale grey aluminium doors, shutters and windows, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms and the living room. For the cooler nights early and late season, there is central heating, a wood-burning stove, and the a/c units also double up as heaters. There is solar powered hot water or a back-up immersion heater. The French doors from the kitchen, living room and double bedroom all open out onto the main sea facing covered terrace, which in turn leads down 2 steps to the pool terrace and BBQ area. These terraces are fully equipped with 2 dining tables, a coffee table, director’s chairs, umbrellas, sun-beds, and a free-standing hammock which can be moved to wherever you prefer.
For larger families or groups there is the option to rent the luxurious first floor apartment in conjunction with the ground floor apartment. The first floor apartment has 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, 1 en-suite bathroom, a lliving room and kitchen. The upstairs apartment has beautiful high beamed ceilings and wonderful views from the spacious balcony/ sun terrace.
Villa Mistiko is absolutely ideal for those seeking a delightful and private hideaway that is just a stones throw away from the village and the beach.

The centre of the village of Almyrida is only 700m from Villa Mistiko, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 4 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, an off-license and the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist Office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For a change of pace, a 15 minute walk uphill (or 10 minutes downhill!) will take you to the main square in the neighbouring village of Plaka. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. A few minutes by car from Simon’s House, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

Any steps? How many? 1 step from the parking area into the house, 2 steps from the house to the pool terrace.
How private? Private. Apart from the owners who reside occasionally in the top floor of the villa, there is only the top floor of a few distant villas that can only partially see the garden or pool terrace.
Nearest neighbour? During low season when the upstairs floor is not booked by the clients of the ground floor, the owners sometimes stay there. Other than that, there are no immediate neighbours. The owners will not be in residence in May and August.
Almyrida beach and facilities are within easy walking distance, and there is a limited bus service into Chania, but we recommend car hire in order to explore the varied regions of the area.
