The owners of Villa Antina are a Greek couple from Chania Town who lived in Canada for many years. Upon their return from Canada they had Villa Antina built as their country retreat and have therefore put much expense, love and care into fitting and furnishing the villa. Exquisite carpentry has been used for the open beamed ceilings, the interior doors, the kitchen cabinets, the bathroom vanity units, and every piece of furniture on the 2 main floors of the villa (not the lower level). Everything has been entirely hand carved and assembled by a craftsman in Chania from matching solid oak. The elegant brass door handles, and kitchen and bathroom fittings have been imported in Italy. The spacious master bedroom is particularly beautiful with high vaulted ceilings, a mezzanine level with pretty lighting, and a sumptuous 4-poster bed with cream drapes, all of which make it ideal for newlyweds or for romantic couples who are eternally on honeymoon! Local stone arches, nooks and an impressive fireplace with glass doors all add to the charm of this lovely villa. The lower level of the villa (set just below the pool terrace, but above ground level) has a studio apartment with the third bedroom, a living area with a sofa bed, a bathroom and a kitchenette. This studio can be accessed from the main staircase in the villa or via a separate entrance making it perfect for family members who need more privacy. Every possible modern comfort is available at Villa Antina including: a high tech under-floor cooling and heating system with individual thermostat controls on each floor, which is completely silent (unlike some air-conditioning units); forest green aluminium doors, windows and shutters; mosquito screens; an electric gate; WIFI Internet access, a phone for incoming calls and outgoing local calls, a 32 inch flat screen TV, satellite TV, a DVD player, a stereo system with CD/cassette/ and radio; fabulous fully tiled bathrooms with power showers (water pressure dependant) and toilets with seats that automatically close slowly and quietly to prevent lid-slamming; and a kitchen with a very large inventory and stainless steel appliances which include a dishwasher, a ceramic hob, built-in oven and extractor fan, a large fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a kettle, a coffee maker, and there is a washing machine in the lower level kitchenette. There is solar powered hot water with a back-up immersion heater and a large reserve water storage tank for those times in the summer when water is restricted. The extensive grounds at Villa Antina are as impressive as the villa itself and are completely surrounded by a low natural stone wall and leylandii bushes which provide privacy. The electric gate opens onto a tiled parking area for 2 cars which in turn has pathways that take you to the different areas of the garden and to the front porch. On one side of the villa is a well kept olive grove with 65 working olive trees. Next to the olive grove is the pergola covered separate entrance to the villa’s lower level. The opposite side of the garden features the pool terrace which has non-slip granites tiles and is furnished with 6 sun-beds and 3 umbrellas. Next to the pool terrace is the pergola covered BBQ, bread oven and kitchenette. A well kept lawn surrounds the pool terrace and is ideal for children to play on. The many raised flowerbeds have been planted with a variety of different shrubs and trees which add both a splash of colour and a sweet fragrance to the garden at Villa Antina including; bougainvillea, jasmine, geraniums, lemon, mandarin and orange trees, and a variety of roses. There is even a herb garden with thyme, rosemary, lemon verbena, lavender and mint, to which you can help yourself. There are many terraces with a choice of sun or shade during the daytime, and in the evening the outside area is beautifully lit so that you can relax outside whilst looking at the stars or the lights in the bay from passing boats. This gorgeous home, with no immediate neighbours, is ideal for either families or couples who are looking for a luxurious escape from the crowds. Accommodation. LocationVilla Antina is a short walk from the mini-market and pizzeria/café in the quaint village of Litsarda and 5 minutes drive from the very pretty village of Vamos which has narrow streets and stone houses and is the administrative centre of the area. Vamos is an ideal starting point for hikes to the surrounding hills and it boasts the only forest of pine wood to be found in the area. A traditional stone road (kalderimi) still remains and a walk in the old part of the village is of great interest. To the south-east of the village, in the Karydi area, one can see the monastery of Agios Giorgos. The ruins of the church’s cells and the old oil-press, with its wonderful domes, remain standing to the present day. As it has done for hundreds of years, day to day life in Vamos revolves around the village square where the locals leisurely pass the time whilst drinking coffee and chatting to each other. The village has a great atmosphere and a large number of amenities including a bank, 2 petrol stations, 2 wonderful tavernas, 2 souvlaki shops, a handful of cafes, a post office, a bakery, a hairdresser, a butcher/fishmonger/ greengrocers, a clothes shop, a jewellery shop, a book shop and a number of gift shops and mini-markets. Litsarda is also a pretty 8 minute drive from the traditional village of Gavalohori. Five hundred metres from the village, you can see several renowned Venetian wells built on a landscape of rare beauty. In Gavalohori there are 3 good tavernas, a bakery, mini market, a lovely folklore museum and a women’s co-operative which has developed the fine art of handicrafts such as knitting, embroidery and lace making. The lovely village of Almyrida, which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach, is only 8.00kms away. This beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops and the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist Office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
