As the name would suggest, the exterior of Villa Lemonia has been painted a fresh lemon colour with white accents such as the aluminium doors, windows and shutters, and the attractive traditional white columns on the semi-covered front terrace. The land drops away below the villa which allows for an exceptional setting for the entire property but especially for the infinity pool and terraces. The pool terrace has been furnished with sun-beds, umbrellas, and adjustable chairs. There is also a large frosted glass dining table and chairs which can be placed either on the pool terrace or the covered main terrace for a choice of sun or shade. The first floor terrace/balcony which leads out from the bedrooms is equipped with a dining table, chairs and a sun umbrella. Whichever terrace you choose to relax on you are sure to be spellbound by the panoramic views and magical sunsets. The interior of Villa Lemonia is just as lovely as the outside surroundings. Every effort has been made by the artistic English owners to ensure that you have a relaxing and comfortable holiday. The high beamed wood ceilings in the bedrooms and the many windows and double doors throughout the villa create a bright and airy atmosphere. The furnishings in the villa are particularly attractive as are the fully tiled main bathroom and downstairs shower room. The beautiful double bedroom has a romantic white metal bed with a canopy/mosquito net that is decorated with a garland of flowers, and high quality sea green and pale gold bedding. The views over the surrounding area can even be enjoyed whilst lying in this pretty bed. The triple bedroom has a set of bunk beds and 1 single bed which are made from natural pine that matches the high beamed ceilings. The many modern comforts include a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchen which has matching stainless steel appliances such as: a ceramic hob, a built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, and a washing machine; satellite TV, and a DVD player in the lounge; mosquito screens, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms and living room. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season and there is a wood burning stove in the lounge. The water is heated either by solar panel or a back-up immersion heater. All around Villa Lemonia the landscape has been left completely natural with rocks, carob trees and wild almond trees that have beautiful pale pink flowers in the spring. Around the house and terraces, there are gravelled areas and flowerbeds which have been planted with heather, palms and the lush “Hottentot fig” mesembryanthum which has beautiful fuchsia and yellow flowers. Behind the villa are a natural stone wall and a private parking area which is in shade for much of the day - helping to the keep the car cool. Next to the pool is a barbeque area which is ideal for having lazy meals at home in a gorgeous setting. This countrified location belies the fact that Villa Lemonia is only 1.1 – 1.2kms from the 2 tavernas and mini market in Kokkino Horio, 1.8kms from the excellent tavernas and shops on Plaka square and 3kms from the sandy beaches and many amenities in Almyrida. LocationThe organic taverna at the famous glass blowing workshop in Kokkino Horio is only 1.1km from Villa Lemonia and has sea and mountain views. During the day you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls.100m further into Kokkino Horio is the family-run taverna on the main square that is shaded by weeping willow trees, has delicious food, and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. Plaka Square is just 1.8km away and has 3 excellent tavernas, 3 well stocked mini markets, a sweet shop, and 5 cafes. 8 minutes away by car is the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans and the Villa Crete Holidays Tourism Office owned and run by Frankie Miles. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
