Villa Nicolas has been furnished with many modern comforts, such as a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchen which includes: a ceramic hob and built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a toaster, a kettle and a coffee maker; fully tiled modern bathrooms – one of which houses a washing machine and a hairdryer; very comfortable couches and chairs, satellite TV in the living room and flat screen TV’s in the bedrooms, 2 DVD players, a stereo unit; white aluminium doors, window frames and shutters; mosquito screens, and air conditioning units in the living room and the upstairs bedrooms. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season, and there is a very contemporary adjustable wood burning stove that was imported from Italy in the living room. None of the bedrooms share an adjoining wall which adds to the peace and privacy of the individual guests at the villa. For family members who prefer even more privacy, the lower level of the villa is accessed from a separate entrance from the pool terrace or via a private staircase within the villa itself. The lower level stays naturally cool and has its own living area with a TV and DVD player, and a double bed. The 40m2 pool is located on the terrace at the front the villa which is and paved with pretty non-slip stone tiles and bordered by palms and leylandii. Furnished with extremely comfortable high quality sun-beds and with sun-umbrellas for shade if needed, it is easy to understand why so many guests spend most of their time relaxing by the pool whilst marvelling at the fabulous views. The hillside position means that the villa is often blessed in the summer by cooling breezes that come off the sea. At night-time, the villa, gardens and pool terrace are romantically illuminated and the lights of passing fishing boats and the evening ferry on its way to Athens twinkle from the bay. A dining table and chairs are set up near the pool terrace and a coffee table and chairs complete the pergola covered front balcony. A grassy area just in front of the villa is ideal for young children to crawl around on, and a side terrace with built-in stone benches with cushions, and a rockery with yucca trees and bird of paradise plants, leads to the rear of the villa which has a lawn, palms, a barbeque area and a teak dining table with director’s chairs. Gorgeous views, theatrical sunsets, style, comfort and easy access by foot to some fantastic tavernas - Villa Nicolas has all that you could possibly ask for a relaxing and memorable holiday. LocationThe main square in Plaka is only 225m from Villa Nicolas and is still very much the focal point of village life. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 3 excellent tavernas, 2 well stocked mini markets, a sweet shop, and 5 cafes. The lovely village of Almyrida is only 1.4km from Villa Nicolas and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 4 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, a wonderful jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, The Villas Crete Holidays tourist office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
Rental PricesAll prices shown are per Villa, per Week, in Euros. Not per person! These prices include a free Welcome Pack and a free copy of the essential guide book, “Crete on the Road” by Frankie Miles.
F.A.QAny steps? How many? 8 steps from the parking area, no steps (a ramp) from the kitchen to the pool terrace, or 8 steps from the front door/living room to the pool terrace, 3 steps from the living area to the downstairs twin bedroom and shower room, plus another 16 steps to the upper floor. How private? Not particularly private because the villa is located on the village outskirts but all but one of the nearby villas are set at least 100m behind the villa. Nearest neighbour? 1 villa next door and then a number of villas 100m behind Villa Nicolas. Plaka Square and Almyrida are within walking distance, and there is a very limited bus service from Almyrida into Chania, but we strongly advise car hire in order to explore the varied regions of the area. |
