Recently built in traditional Cretan style incorporating local stone and cypress wood, Villa Keramika has been thoughtfully and comfortably furnished by its English owners. Much of the furniture has been made locally using wood which matches the beamed ceilings, windows, doors, shutters and pergolas. The fragrant cypress wood ceilings, pretty stone arches and fireplace, framed black and white prints of yesteryear Crete, icons of saints, and terracotta clay pots filled with dried lavender give the villa a very homely feel. These traditional features blend perfectly with every modern comfort that you could wish for including satellite TV, DVD and CD players, cooker with ceramic hob, dishwasher, washing machine, barbeque, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms. The a/c units also double up as heaters, and there is central heating and a fireplace for the cooler nights early and late season, or for an extended winter stay. In consideration of the environment there is solar powered hot water with a back-up emersion heater. Total relaxation is guaranteed at Villa Keramika with a large library of books, DVD’s and CD’s, binoculars for watching birds or the ships in the bay, torches for walking to the village at night, and a cool-box for day trips to secluded beaches. Villa Keramika has only one immediately adjacent villa which does not overlook the vast majority of the property. The spacious covered front terrace leads out from the living area and downstairs bedroom and is equipped with comfortable armchairs and a dining table. The 2 large balconies that lead out from the upstairs bedrooms are both equipped with tables and chairs, and the pool terrace is furnished with sun-beds and umbrellas. In order to ensure the safety of the smaller members of the family (and the peace of mind for the adult family members) the large pool terrace and the built-in barbeque area have each been separated from the villa by railings and gates. Despite the quiet countrified location Villa Keramika is only 10 minutes from the sandy beaches, and many excellent tavernas and shops in Almyrida. All in all, Villa Keramika is the perfect place for either families or couples to enjoy a wonderful relaxing holiday with beautiful scenery Accommodation. LocationKokkino Horio taverna and mini market a 10 minute walk from Villa Keramika. The family run-taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, and has delicious food and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna (once a month at most), which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find older locals who were used as extras in the film, and they will happily show you photos of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Just 15 minutes walk from Villa Keramika is the famous glass blowing workshop. Here you can watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner, into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. Villa Keramika is just 8 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes, shops, and the Villas Crete Holidays tourist office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
