1 double bedroom, 1 Twin Bedroom. The thoughtful owners, Alastair and Helen, have furnished the villa to incorporate the aqua colours of the sea in the bedrooms and the bathroom, whilst utilising pine furniture that was made in the workshop of a local craftsman. They have kindly provided many extras to make your stay here more comfortable including a good selection of books, board games, DVD’s, play station games, toys for the beach including a boogie board, and a hairdryer. A key safe with a coded barrel lock has been fitted just outside the front door which means that you can go to the beach or to dinner without having to worry about losing the key. The villa’s position so close to the water ensures that it enjoys the cool sea breezes during the hot summer months. The Piano shaped, mosaic tiled pool is set just 9 steps below the living room balcony. The pool is shared with 3 other villas (including Beachside Villa) but 2 of these are holiday homes that are rarely occupied. In addition to the sea facing balconies, Kalives Sands Villa has a rear balcony and a rear terrace with a storage bench which is bathed in sun first thing in the morning but then is shady for the rest of the day. We highly recommend Kalives Sands Villa for its unique position above the beach with gorgeous views of the village and Souda Bay and yet within easy walking distance to the beach, shops and tavernas in Kalives. Accommodation. Ground floor (11 steps down from the parking area, 17 steps to the upstairs bedrooms, 8.5 steps above the pool terrace): Open plan living room, kitchen and dining area, 1 cloak room, 1 utility cupboard, a covered balcony with fabulous views, and a rear terrace. The living room has double sliding doors that open out onto a covered balcony that has steps down to the pool. The balcony has spectacular views and is equipped with a teak dining table and chairs for 6. The open plan living/dining area has 2 comfortable red couches – one of which folds out to a bed that sleep 2 persons, pretty red and gold sequin cushions, diaphanous red curtains and matching cushions, 2 coffee tables with reading lamps, a wood and glass TV unit with a TV, a DVD player, a Sony play station and 2 handsets and a selection of board games, a bookshelf with books, DVD’s, and play station games, a CD rack with CD’s, a side table with a CD player/radio, a brown wicker footstool/pouffe, and a colourful cotton floor rug. The modern kitchen area is fully equipped with a ceramic hob, a built-in oven, a cooker hood, a large fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a toaster, a coffee maker and a kettle. There are blonde wood built-in cabinets and a dining table and chairs. The kitchen area has a window that looks out onto the rear terrace and steps to the parking area. There is a utility cupboard that houses the washing machine, and a cloakroom that is fully tiled and has a white washbasin with a glass shelf, a mirror, and a toilet. Top floor: (17 steps up from the living room level): 2 double bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 1 balcony with sea views, and 1 balcony with views of an olive covered hillside and neighbouring properties. There is a small landing at the top of the stairs with a bedroom at each end and the full bathroom in the middle. This means that the bedrooms do not share a connecting wall, leading to greater peace and privacy. The double bedroom has a black wrought iron double bed, 2 pine bedside cabinets with teal silk reading lamps, a teal, purple and blue sequined wall hanging, pale green and teal diaphanous curtains with ornate tie-backs, a pine dressing table, wall mirror and stool, a CD player, and a built-in pine double wardrobe with drawers, shelves and hanging space. There is a double sliding door leading out onto a sea facing balcony that is equipped with a coffee table and chairs. This balcony has gorgeous views of the beach, village, harbour and bay. The bathroom has blue and white tiles, a bath with a shower attachment, a white washbasin a glass shelf, a mirror, a toilet, and a frosted window. Across the hall way is the twin bedroom which is furnished with 2 locally made pine single beds, a matching bedside table, 2 above bed reading lamps, a bedside lamp, pale green and teal diaphanous curtains with ornate tie-backs, 2 whimsical paintings, a full length wall mirror, built-in pine double wardrobe with drawers, shelves and hanging space, wicker baskets, and a built-in shelving unit with a diaphanous peach curtain. The twin bedroom has a double sliding door that leads out onto an easterly facing balcony that looks at the hill behind, neighbouring properties, and it overlooks the courtyard and parking area. The Pool Terrace (9 steps from the living area level). The shared mosaic tiled pool is piano shaped and 36m2. The pool terrace is equipped with sun-beds and umbrellas and looks out over the beach to the bay. LocationThe village of Kalives has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. Kalives stretches along 4 kilometres of sandy beaches, and the narrow main street is lined with old white washed houses. Two rivers join the sea at Kalives, and there is a traditional fishing boat harbour at the eastern end of the village. There is an abundance of excellent tavernas and cafes lining the seafront, and there are shops of every description including 3 large supermarkets, 2 bookshops, many gift shops, 5 clothes shops, 3 organic fruit and vegetable shops, 2 chemists, 3 bakeries, 3 butchers and a laundry. The village is also the home of a number of talented artists, and the only traditional barrel maker who is left in the area (a great place to go for a wine tasting visit). Three kilometres away in Almyrida, there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist Office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 25 minutes away by car. Villa amenities

F.A.QAny steps? How many? 11 steps from the parking area into the villa, 17 steps from the ground floor to the first floor, 8.5 steps from the villa to the pool terrace. How private? The villa is set within the village and is therefore not especially private. The pool area is shared with 3 other neighboring maisonettes/villas – all of which are holiday homes and not in use very often. Nearest neighbour? The next door maisonette. Almyrida beach and facilities are within easy walking distance, and there is a limited bus service into Chania, but we recommend car hire in order to explore the varied regions of the area. |
