Private swimming pool (40m2 piano shaped infinity pool, & depth 0.80m, 2.20m)

Villa Aspro is a modern villa with the perfect hilltop location that affords both privacy, and spectacular views over olive and pines trees to Souda Bay on one side, and a dramatic mountainous backdrop on the other. The careful design of the villa ensures that all of the bedrooms, main living rooms, terraces, and the infinity pool benefit from the fantastic sea and mountain views.

“Aspro” means “white” in Greek, and this is very appropriate as the villa has a very light and airy feel due to the traditionally Greek, white and blue colour scheme that the English owners have thoughtfully chosen. The villa itself is painted white throughout and has blue shutters on all of the doors and windows. The pretty bathrooms all have white suites and are fully tiled with white tiles and blue mosaic details. The spacious interiors have light terracotta floor tiles and are comfortably furnished with wooden furniture that was hand crafted locally. Villa Aspro has many useful accessories to make your stay more relaxing including: a variety of books, mosquito screens, satellite TV, DVD and CD players, a ceramic hob and built in oven, a large fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a washing machine, a BBQ , and air conditioning units in the bedrooms. The a/c units also double up as heaters, and there is central heating and a fireplace for the cooler nights early and late season. There is solar powered hot water or a back-up immersion heater.

The property has a natural stone wall along one side to ensure privacy from the one neighbouring villa, and land that drops away below the villa and garden on the other three sides. The private gravelled driveway has colourful flower beds and rockeries on either side, as does the main terrace outside the kitchen area and next to the pool. The garden is planted with a number of olive trees as well as many plants which include: hibiscus, mesembryanthemum flowering ground cover, bougainvillea, oleander, cacti, lavender, purple daisies and blue cupidone daisies. The piano shaped infinity pool has wonderful views and is set just below the lounge terrace. There is plenty of outdoor furniture including sun-beds, umbrellas, director chairs and a dining table.

All in all, Villa Aspro is the perfect place for either couples or families to enjoy stunning views whilst relaxing in privacy, yet remaining only a short drive from the beach, and many local tavernas and amenities.

Location

Xirosterni is a sleepy hamlet that has a village centre which comprises a cluster of stone houses and a kafenion. The village is famous for its festival on August 5th, to which everyone is invited. Just 2 kilometres away is Vamos, which is a very pretty village with narrow streets and stone houses, and is an ideal starting point for hikes to the surrounding hills. To the south-east of the village, in the Karydi area, one can see the monastery of Agios Giorgos. The ruins of the church’s cells and the old oil-press, with its wonderful domes, remain standing to the present day. Vamos has a large number of amenities including a bank, 2 petrol stations, 2 wonderful tavernas, 2 souvlaki shops, a handful of cafes, a post office, bakery, hairdresser, and a number of gift shops and mini-markets. Xirosterni is also a short 5 minute drive from the traditional village of Gavalohori. Five hundred metres from the village, you can see several renowned Venetian wells built on a landscape of rare beauty. In Gavalohori there are 3 good tavernas, a bakery, mini market, a lovely folklore museum and a women’s co-operative which has developed the fine art of handicrafts such as knitting, embroidery and lace making. The lovely village of Almyrida, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 4 excellent tavernas, 9 café/bars, 2 bakeries, 2 wonderful jewellery shops, 5 mini-markets, 3 gift shops, The Villas Crete Holidays tourist office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles, and an off-license. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers, catamarans, and mountain bikes. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, lace makers in Gavalohori, and silk makers in Kalamitsi. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car.
