4+ bedroom villas

Prices starting from €1155 Euros per week.

2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom, 1 single bedroom, 1 loft double bedroom. Private swimming pool (8m x 5m & depth 0.60m to 1.80m)

Villa Artemis enjoys a privileged and peaceful location in the heart of the countryside, yet only 2kms from the many amenities in the pretty riverside village of Vrisses, and 6kms from the long dune-backed sandy beaches near the seaside resort of Georgioupolis. Set on an elevated wooded hillside, the villa, pool, lawn and terraces command sweeping views over a lush valley of silvery olive groves and tiny hamlets, to the distant Aegean Sea on one side and The White Mountains on the other. Villa Artemis, and its sister property with 3 bedrooms, Villa Avra, have been built and furnished with flair and care by their owner, Despoina. Whilst effortlessly combining traditional Cretan design features with modern facilities including air-conditioning, Satellite TV and internet access, Despoina has managed to create a home away from home which is particularly welcoming and beautifully kept.

Much thought and care has been put into the elegant decor. Tastefully chosen furniture blends in seamlessly with beamed ceilings, terracotta floor tiles, and pastel walls which have been enhanced with ornate hand painted gold leaf borders. The first floor features 3 charming bedrooms, each with their own private balcony, a fully tiled modern bathroom, and a sofa in the hallway. A wooden staircase leads up to a quaint attic style bedroom which children and romantic couples adore. None of the bedrooms share a connecting wall which adds to the peace and privacy of each guest. A 5th bedroom is on the ground floor, near a fully tiled shower room, and is ideal for a less able family member. The roomy open plan living room features a very elegant lounge area with a pretty sponge painted fireplace, leather and dark wood furniture with traditional hand studding, and locally sourced accessories. The kitchen/dining corner has a comforting farmhouse style yet at the same time features every possible modern appliance.

Much time is sure to be relaxing in the well tended Mediterranean garden. Raised stone flowerbeds feature colourful rose bushes on one side of the villa whilst mature olive trees on the other side provide the perfect spot for reading or dozing in the shade. Taking centre stage is the good sized swimming pool that is surrounded by a terracotta tiled sun terrace and flanked by pine and olive trees, and a well kept lawn that is ideal for children to play on. The well equipped barbeque area and the adjacent covered dining terrace are framed by fuchsia bougainvillea, and are likely to be the focal point for many a holiday meal. An array of comfortable garden furniture invites you to do nothing more taxing than sitting back and taking in the panoramic views, either in the brilliant sunshine during the day, or under the breathtakingly clear star filled night sky.

Upon arrival at Villa Artemis, a guest last year said that she had found her own little piece of heaven. Such is the appeal of the property that visitors may find it hard to leave, but this beautiful part of Crete deserves further investigation. The central rural location central means that you are wonderfully placed for exploring. The Dourakis Winery, Lake Kournas, and the waterfalls and Roman tombs at Argiroupolis are within 20 minutes drive, the spectacular Imbros gorge and the south coast are less than an hour away, and the Venetian towns of Rethymnon and Chania, with their fishing harbours and weekly street markets, are just 30 and 40 minutes drive to the east and west.

All in all, every detail from the house position, to elegant décor, and immaculate garden with gorgeous countryside views, makes Villa Artemis perfect for anyone seeking quality accommodation, in a quiet Cretan hamlet where it is easy to leave behind the everyday hustle and bustle, yet is perfectly placed for exploring if desired.

Vrysses is primarily a working village that is rich in agricultural products and is famous for its cheese, yoghurt and honey. There are many shops in Vrysses including 2 bakeries, 2 butchers, 2 supermarkets, a bank, a chemist, a post office, clothing shops, a book shop, a jewellers, and a fantastic cake and ice-cream shop. Set at the mouth of the Almyros River, there is a small fishing harbour and the Chapel of Saint Nicholas which set at the end of a small causeway in the sea just off the beach. Water sports, miniature golf, and horse riding are all available from Georgioupolis, and the younger members of the family particularly enjoy taking a canoe or pedaloe up the river to feed the turtles in the summer months. The villa is perfectly situated to explore both the north and south coasts. The lovely village of Alikampos is only 4kms from the villa. Alikampos is set on a terraced hillside. The wonderful chapel of “The Koimeses” is situated in a tranquil spot below the village, overlooking a gorge that is thickly forested with conifers, olive and orange trees. Built in 875A.D. the interior walls are completely covered in impressive frescoes that date from the 14th Century. Also near Filipos is the Dourakis Winery which produces delicious local wines. A tour around the winery and delicious home-made food are all available. The road that leads to the south coast runs through Vrysses and leads to the Imbros Gorge, and then onto the Aradeina Gorge. The Imbros Gorge has higher walls that the more famous Samaria Gorge and takes approximately 3 hours to walk through. The small port village of Chora Sfakion is only 45 minutes from Villa Artemis.
