Set just below the adjacent villa (Villa Nostalgia ), never the less Villa Poppy has its own grounds, pool and private parking area. Each villa sits on half an acre of a 1 acre plot that shares a gate and perimeter walls, but that has been split into 2 distinct and private halves. The villa has been positioned in a way that guarantees privacy in a number of different areas by the pool and on the terraces and balconies. The villa has been furnished throughout with matching modern cherry wood furniture. The built in kitchen cabinets and bedroom wardrobes are also made out of this matching wood. The warm coloured draperies and textiles in the villa give a lovely summery feeling, and the metal and wooden beds in all of the bedrooms are quite charming. All modern comforts have been provided at Villa Poppy, including satellite TV, DVD and CD players, dishwasher and washing machine, white aluminium doors, windows, and shutters with mosquito screens on all the windows, and air conditioning units in all the bedrooms and the living room. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season. The water is heated by either solar panel or a back-up immersion heater. The design of the villa has been carefully thought out in order to bring your living area into the outdoors, so that you can fully appreciate the outstanding views at all times. Therefore there are many terraces for both sun and shade, and an ample supply of garden furniture such as tables, chairs, umbrellas, a double swing-chair and sun-beds. The lovely pool and the spacious upstairs terrace are the most prominent features of the property, with both enjoying infinite sea and mountain views and gorgeous sunsets. LocationPlaka village square is only 1.1kms from Villa Poppy and is an easy 10 minute walk. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets just off the mulberry tree lined square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 3 excellent tavernas, 2 well stocked mini markets, a sweet shop, and 5 cafes. 3 of these cafes are just a short five minute walk from the villa. Villa Poppy is just 5 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes, shops, and the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist Office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio , lace makers in Gavalohori , and silk makers in Kalamitsi .For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.
