1 double bedroom, 3 twin bedrooms (1 with bunk beds, and 1 in the lower level annex with an en-suite bathroom and a separate entrance located next to the pool terrace). Private swimming pool with a separate children’s area (10x 5metres, & depth 0.57m, 0.90m and 1.90m) Villa Gaia is a beautiful villa finished to an incredibly high standard, and nestled on a hillside above the traditional village of Tsivaras. Named after the goddess who is the embodiment of Mother Earth, you will understand why when you take in the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding area. Unrivalled views of Souda Bay, The White Mountains, quaint Tsivaras village, green and silver olive groves, and the Turkish Fort at Aptera make this an unforgettable setting. Villa Gaia’s location is also very convenient with easy access by car to the amenities and beaches at Kalives, Almyrida and Kera, and the villages of Vamos and Gavalohori, plus numerous walking trails. Even though you may never want to leave the villa, Tsivaras is the perfect starting point for exploring the many sites that West Crete has to offer as it is only a few minutes drive to the National Highway. The villa itself is set on a half acre plot and has been cleverly designed in order to bring your living area into the outdoors, so that you can fully appreciate the outstanding views at all times. Therefore there are many terraces for both sun and shade, and an ample supply of garden furniture such as tables, chairs, umbrellas and sun-beds. The covered main terrace wraps around three sides of the villa and resembles an open-air sitting room, whilst giving easy access to the covered patio and open pool terrace below. The garden that surrounds the villa and pool has been lovingly landscaped and planted with numerous different plants and trees to give a splash of colour, such as, bougainvillea, daisies, heather, Washingtonian palms, date palms, rock roses, lavender, and birds of paradise. The lower terraces of the spacious garden are covered with young fruit trees including, orange, lemon, mandarin, plum, and peach. Villa Gaia is easily one of the most stylishly furnished villas that we have come across. The Danish owners have created an incredibly attractive and welcoming home by combining high quality modern furnishings, with many thoughtful touches. Archways connect all the sections of the open-plan living area. Cheerful primary colours feature throughout the furnishings, pictures, and bedding of the villa, particularly Mediterranean blue in the dining and lounge areas. All modern comforts have been provided for, such as central air for cooling the villa (without the background hum of air conditioners), a ceramic hob and built in oven, a fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a washing machine, a DVD player, satellite TV and a BBQ. For the winter months and those cooler nights early and late season, the central air will also heat the villa. There is solar powered hot water and a back-up immersion heater. All rooms have white aluminium doors, windows and shutters. Visiting younger children will love the room that has been specially designed for them, particularly the silver grey bunk beds, and the jolly green dragon tidy basket that hangs from the ceiling. A twin bedroom and en-suite bathroom with a private entrance on the covered patio next to the pool is ideal for use by larger parties, including families of differing ages who like to have more privacy. LocationTsivaras is a typical small Greek village built on terraces on a hillside with lovely views. The kafenion in the centre of the village is the focal point of daily life, where the post for the entire village is delivered, and the men come to chat, drink coffee (or something stronger) and play tavli (a form of backgammon). In the summer they sit under the vine covered pergola, and in the winter they huddle around the wood burning stove. The kafenion is also a surprisingly well stocked mini market with fresh bread, and organic eggs, cheese and vegetables. Tsivaras has a fantastic location with just a short drive to many other villages in the area, the National Highway, and local beaches. There are many quiet walking trails leading from Tsivaras across hills, through olive groves and/or a mini gorge, which can take you to Kera cove and beach, Almyrida , Douliana and Gavalohori . The nearby villages of Kalives or Almyrida have long been popular destinations for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. Both villages have sandy beaches, small fishing harbours, and a wide choice of excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Almyrida also has a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans and the Villas Crete Holidays tourist office, owned and run by Frankie Miles. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio , lace makers in Gavalohori , and silk makers in Kalamitsi . For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
