As its name suggests, Beachside Villa is set just above the town beach of Kalives. From both of the balconies and the pool terrace there are fabulous views of the sandy town beach, the village with its beautiful church, the small fishing harbour, Souda Bay, The Turkish Fort at Aptera, and the Akrotiri Peninusla. Kalives is a very popular village and it is very rare to find such lovely accommodation so close to the beach. There are three private sitting out areas that are perfect for dining “al-fresco” with a choice of sun or shade. Perfect for those of you who do not want to have to drive all the time, Beachside Villa is only 75m from the nearby sandy beach that is lined with trees, tavernas and mini-markets.



Beachside Villa is newly built and is set on a terraced hillside in the area of Kalives known as Kalives and it has a private parking space on the track just outside the front door. It is a particularly pretty modern villa with traditional Greek touches and finished to a very high standard. The exterior is painted a lovely shade of pale buttermilk and has Wedgewood blue pergolas, windows and doors. The English owners have created a very attractive home with many modern comforts such as a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchen which includes: a ceramic hob, a built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster and a beautiful marble effect breakfast bar and stools; a fully tiled bathroom and cloakroom, a utility cupboard which houses the washing machine, iron and ironing board; satellite TV, a DVD player, in the lounge; blue aluminium doors, window frames and shutters; and air conditioning units in the bedrooms and living area. The a/c units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season. The water is heated by either solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.

The furnishings at Beachside Villa are particularly tasteful and are very comfortable – this is not your average holiday home. Diaphanous curtains with tie-backs, silk cushions, modern floral paintings, and vibrant bed covers are just some of the elegant touches in the villa. The cream leather sofas, marble table tops, and matching blonde wood furniture and built-in wardrobes give the villa a very light and airy feel. This is enhanced by the villa’s position so close to the water that ensures that it enjoys the cool sea breezes during the hot summer months.

The Piano shaped, mosaic tiled pool is set just 9 steps below the living room balcony. The pool is shared with 3 other villas but these are holiday homes that are infrequently occupied. For larger families or groups who like to holiday together but still value their privacy, in 2010 Beachside Villa can be rented in oonjunction with Kalives Sands Villa which is next door and almost identical(coming soon to this website).  In addition to the sea facing balconies, Beachside Villa has a small courtyard area that is decorated with plants in terracotta pots and has a table and chairs. This courtyard area is bathed in sun first thing in the morning but then is shady for the rest of the day.

We highly recommend Beachside Villa for its unique position above the beach with gorgeous views of the village and Souda Bay and yet within easy walking distance to the beach, shops and tavernas in Kalives .

Accommodation.
Ground floor (8 steps down from the parking area, 17steps to the upstairs bedrooms, 9 steps above the pool terrace): Open plan living room, kitchen and dining area, 1 cloak room, 1 utility cupboard, a covered balcony with fabulous views, and a courtyard.
The living room has double sliding doors that open out onto a covered balcony that has steps down to the pool. The balcony hasspectacular views and is equipped with a dining table and fully cushioned chairs for 4. The open plan living/dining area has 2 comfortable cream leather 2 person sofas, a blonde wood coffee table with a marble top, a corner table and lamp, a TV, a DVD player, diaphanous orange curtains and matching cushions. The modern kitchen area is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances. There is ceramic hob, a built-in oven, a cooker hood, a large fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a toaster, a coffee maker and a kettle. There are blonde wood built-in cabinets, a dining table and chairs,  and a counter top and breakfast bar that is black marble effect with silver flecks. There are also 2 black and chrome stools. The kitchen are has a window that looks out onto the courtyard and steps to the parking area. There is a utility cupboard that houses the washing machine, and a cloakroom that is fully tiles and has a white washbasin with a glass shelf, a mirror, and a toilet.

Top floor: (17 steps up from the living room level): 2 double bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 1 balcony with sea views, and 1 balcony with views of an olive covered hillside and neighbouring properties. There is a small landing at the top of the stairs with a bedroom at each end and the full bathroom in the middle. This means that the bedrooms do not share a connecting wall, leading to greater pace and privacy. One double bedroom is equipped with matching light wood modern furniture. There is a double bed, 2 bedside cabinets with reading lamps, and built-in wardrobe with drawers, shelves and hanging space. There is a double sliding door that leads out onto an easterly facing balcony that looks at the hill behind, neighbouring properties, and it overlooks the courtyard and parking area. The bathroom has greyish marble effect tiles, a bath with a shower attachment, a white washbasin a glass shelf, a mirror, a toilet, and a frosted window. Across the hall way is the second double bedroom which is furnished with the same matching blonde wood furniture as the first double bedroom, plus a side table and a wall mirror. There is a double sliding door leading out onto a sea facing balcony that is equipped with a dining table and 4 chairs. This balcony has gorgeous views of the beach, village, harbour and bay.

The Pool Terrace (9 steps from the living area level). The shared mosaic tiled pool is piano shaped and 36m2. The pool terrace is equipped with sun-beds and umbrellas and looks out over the beach to the bay.

Location


The village of Kalives has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. Kalives stretches along 4 kilometres of sandy beaches, and the narrow main street is lined with old white washed houses. Two rivers join the sea at Kalives , and there is a traditional fishing boat harbour at the eastern end of the village. There is an abundance of excellent tavernas and cafes lining the seafront, and there are shops of every description including 3 large supermarkets, 2 bookshops, many gift shops, 5 clothes shops, 3 organic fruit and vegetable shops, 2 chemists, 3 bakeries, 3 butchers and a laundry. The village is also the home of a number of talented artists, and the only traditional barrel maker who is left in the area (a great place to go for a wine tasting visit).

Three kilometres away in Almyrida , there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist Office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio , lace makers in Gavalohori , and silk makers in Kalamitsi . For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 25 minutes away by car.

The pool area is shared with 3 other neighboring maisonettes/villas – all of which are holiday homes and not in use very often.

Nearest neighbour?
The next door maisonette that is set just below Beachside Villa.

Almyrida beach and facilities are within easy walking distance, and there is a limited bus service into Chania , but we recommend car hire in order to explore the varied regions of the area.
