All that awaits you if you come to Crete is gorgeous scenery, spectacular beaches and mountains, wonderful weather, delicious fresh homegrown food, and a laid-back way of life. Greek hospitality is unrivalled and the spirited locals on Crete welcome tourists with open arms and cannot do enough for their guests. This is especially true today because the austerity cuts have affected the day to day lives of Greeks and Tourism is essential to the Greek economy. In short - Greece Needs You! Despite higher taxes, prices in tavernas and cafes have stayed the same and in many cases have been reduced. Crete is a very safe island and has a very low crime rate - which is one of the reasons that we live here.

This year we have received many e-mails from guests who are hesitant to come to Crete including one from a lady who sent us the following e-mail after her stay at Villa Kali Zoe from July 03 - 17, 2012:

Hi Frankie,

Just to let you know we had the most fantastic holiday ever and are all in love with Crete and its people - I am amused now at my pre holiday concerns ! ... I have never been somewhere where it's so safe and friendly , really it's quite unusual to saunter off the beach for lunch leaving bags on sun-beds etc....I even left a purse with 70 Euros in it in a shop in Chania ...someone had handed it in and I got it back with all the cash in it ...that would NOT happen in UK ! We loved the villa and will be BACK ...we will recommend both Crete and your villa company to our friends .

I hope the troubles Greece are facing pass soon and that your business doesn't suffer too much as a result of the bad press.

Kind Regards, Jane

This guest was true to her word and she has already re-booked to come back to Crete in July 2013 - though this time she has booked a larger villa because she is coming with even more family members.

In summation, when you combine the lower prices on the island, cheaper flights with budget airlines including Ryan Air and Easy Jet, and the fact that less people visited Greece in 2012, the reality is that this is one of the best times to visit Crete.
