We are delighted to be the exclusive agents for Villa Chryselli which is finished and furnished to a very high standard. Villa Chryselli comprises a beautiful villa and a completely self-contained cottage which enjoy commanding views of Souda Bay, The Akrotiri Peninsula, Kokkino Horio village, olive groves and the White Mountains. Set on an elevated hillside at the foot of Mount Drapanos, this property affords privacy, comfort, wonderful views, and incredible sunsets. A leisurely stroll of 500m brings you to the large church, fantastic (and very friendly) family run taverna, and well stocked mini market in the heart of the village. Leading off from the main square are a tangle of higgledy-piggledy lanes with traditional white washed houses, and the old kafenion where the pace of life is laid back to say the least.

Despite the convenient location near the village amenities, the villa is set in a completely enclosed plot of 3000m2 which affords a good deal of privacy to the villa’s guests. The grounds have been left natural in some areas with wild flowers and rocky outcrops, but closer to the villa the garden and pool areas have been cleverly landscaped with gravelled areas, rockeries, a multitude of terracotta pots, natural stone walls, and non-slip flagstones around the pool itself. Planted with an eye-catching array of Mediterranean shrubs and trees including hibiscus, oleander, aloe vera, mesembryanthum, geraniums, bougainvillea, cacti, and mature olive trees, the grounds of Villa Chryselli beautifully complement the stunning panoramic views over the surrounding area. The early evening views of the sun setting over Souda Bay and the classic Cretan village are quite breathtaking and therefore deserve special mention.

This charming villa has a choice of sun or shade with a number of different terraces and balconies, (including a sun terrace that is accessed from the principal bedroom in the villa, and the cottage roof terrace), all of which are fully equipped with a vast array of comfortable pool and garden furniture. The pool terrace itself is fully equipped with sun loungers, umbrellas, director’s chairs, small tables, and a dining table and chairs. Two olive trees set on opposite sides of the pool terrace provide additional shade and are ideal for post lunch siestas or relaxing with a good book and a cool drink. The barbeque is situated on the shaded dining area at the entrance to the cottage, and is perfectly positioned next to the pool terrace for appetizing dinners under the star-filled night sky or a leisurely al fresco breakfast after a morning dip in the pool.

The elegant French owner has created an attractive and appealing home that shows both attention to detail and a gift for interior design. Decorated throughout in fresh colours and tasteful fabrics Villa Chryselli has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Occupying much of the ground floor is the open plan living room that has clearly defined areas for lounging, cooking and dining. The clever design ensures that the superb location can be fully appreciated from both the villa and cottage, and that the well laid out accommodation is perfectly suited to summer living. Patio doors in all of the bedrooms, and the archways on both covered outside dining terraces frame the impressive views across the village roof tops to the sparkling sea and majestic mountains.

The furnishings at Villa Chyrselli are an attractive combination of traditionally Cretan furniture which has been handcrafted at a local workshop, and cream coloured French Provincial style furniture which has been delicately hand painted with floral motifs by skilled artists. To ensure a relaxing holiday, there are many modern comforts including a fully fitted, very well equipped kitchens which include matching white appliances such as: electric cookers, 2 microwave ovens, a dishwasher, kettles, toasters, and coffee makers; spacious fully tiled bathrooms, 2 of which houses the washing machines; satellite TV, 2 flat screen TV’s, a DVD player and a CD player; Mediterranean blue aluminium doors, window frames, and shutters; a ceiling fan in the living room, and air conditioning units in the bedrooms. The a/c units also double up as heaters, and there is a fireplace in the cottage, and central heating (oil not included in the rental price) for the cooler nights early and late season. The water is heated by either solar panel or back-up immersion heater, and there is a private parking area on the villa’s gated driveway. Homely touches such as candles, icons and many paintings, as well as 2 hairdryers and a selection of books and DVD’s have been thoughtfully supplied. WIFI internet access is available (top up cards for airtime need to be bought).

Independently accessed via the driveway or the pool terrace, the cottage will be of particular interest to grandparents, teenagers, or anyone seeking an added degree of privacy while still being very much part of the family holiday. The villa and completely self-contained cottage always rent as one property in order to ensure privacy. During the low season the villa can be rented at a lower price that does not include use of the cottage, but for larger families the cottage can be rented along with the villa for an additional fee. During high season (July and August) the cottage is always included in the rental price.

Gorgeous views, privacy, an ideal base from which to explore Crete’s sites, theatrical sunsets, style, comfort and easy access by foot to 2 excellent tavernas - Villa Chyselli has all that you could possibly ask for a relaxing and memorable holiday.

Kokkino Horio taverna and mini market are only 6 minutes walk from Villa Chryselli. The family-run taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, has delicious food, and very friendly owners (Zacharias and his son Yiannis) who know everything about the village and the surrounding area. During the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find older locals who were used as extras in the film, and who will happily show you photos of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Just 10 minutes walk from the villa is the famous glass blowing workshop. Here you can eat at the organic taverna or watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. In 2012 The Retreat Taverna opened on the outskirts of the village and has delicious food and panoramic views. Villa Chryselli is just 8 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a scuba diving centre, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, horse riding, and guided walking and coach tours. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car.
