Villa Giasemi’s artistic English owners have spared no expense to create one of the most luxurious homes that we have encountered on Crete, whilst combining elegant furnishings and works of art with every possible modern amenity from a lap top computer, to a play station and a 32” plasma TV. Designed by a renowned local architect, the light and airy interiors are incredibly spacious with extra large windows and glass doors which lead out onto many balconies and terraces, with a choice of sun or shade. The lovely pool has a 40m2 section as well as an additional 4.4m2 children’s area which is shallow and separated by a barrier from the main pool for safety purposes. The pool terrace has expansive sea and mountain views and is furnished with sun-beds and colourful pool towels, small tables for drinks and books etc, sun umbrellas, a comfortable couch, 2 armchairs, a coffee table, and a barbeque. In addition to the sun umbrellas there are 2 covered terraces if further shade is required. The living room terrace is furnished with a large dining table and cushioned chairs for 8 and is ideal for al-fresco dining whilst enjoying the views. Poolside relaxation continues under the stars on the warm summer evenings that Crete is famous for. Lights twinkle in the distance from the Akrotiri Peninsula, the old village and from the ferries in Souda Bay that are setting off on their nightly journey to Athens. The garden immediately surrounding the villa has been landscaped with natural wood decking as well as flowerbeds and rockeries which are currently being planted with a number of grassy areas and a selection of colourful plants including bougainvillea, hibiscus, and jasmine, as well as a pear tree, palms and olive trees. The remainder of the large garden has been left in its natural state with rocky outcrops interspersed with almond trees, olive trees, and an infusion of wild flowers in the spring. The front driveway is gravelled and leads to large private parking area and a car port. Villa Giasemi was completed in the spring of 2008 and the modern interiors have been flamboyantly furnished to an exceptionally high standard of comfort including matching dark oak furniture throughout, luxurious fabrics for the sofas and curtains, king size beds in 2 of the bedrooms, high quality bed linens and soft towels. The stylish modern kitchen has been imported from Italy and contains every possible stainless steel appliance including, a dishwasher, a ceramic hob, built-in oven and extractor fan, a large fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, a kettle and a coffee maker and there is a washing machine in the separate utility room. The villa has many other features including a peaceful study with a computer and printer that can double up as fourth bedroom, a master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe, and fabulous fully tiled bathrooms with vanity units and heated towel rails. The feeling of space at Villa Giasemi cannot be emphasized enough and this is magnified by the grand doors and windows which are both wide and tall and take up the majority of the wall space in many rooms. Two of the bedrooms have very high vaulted white wood ceilings which are not only beautiful but also practical as they help to keep the villa cool during the long hot summers. The villa has aluminium doors, windows and shutters (some of which are electrically operated), mosquito screens, and air-conditioning units in all of the bedrooms and the living room. For the cooler nights at the start and end of the season, the villa has full central heating, a fireplace and the a/c units also double up as heaters. LocationOnly 15 minutes walk from Villa Giasemi is the very pretty village of Vamos which has narrow streets and stone houses and is the administrative center of the area. Vamos is an ideal starting point for hikes to the surrounding hills and it boasts the only forest of pine wood to be found in the area. A traditional stone road (kalderimi) still remains and a walk in the old part of the village is of great interest. To the south-east of the village, in the Karydi area, one can see the monastery of Agios Giorgos. The ruins of the church’s cells and the old oil-press, with its wonderful domes, remain standing to the present day. As it has done for hundreds of years, day to day life in Vamos revolves around the village square where the locals leisurely pass the time whilst drinking coffee and chatting to each other. The village has a great atmosphere and a large number of amenities including a bank, 2 petrol stations, 2 wonderful tavernas, 2 souvlaki shops, a handful of cafes, a post office, a bakery, a hairdresser, a butcher/fishmonger/ greengrocers, a clothes shop, a jewellery shop, a book shop and a number of gift shops and mini-markets. Vamos is also a short 5 minute drive from the traditional village of Gavalohori. Five hundred metres from the village, you can see several renowned Venetian wells built on a landscape of rare beauty. In Gavalohori there are 3 good tavernas, a bakery, mini market, a lovely folklore museum and a women’s co-operative which has developed the fine art of handicrafts such as knitting, embroidery and lace making. The lovely village of Almyrida, which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach, is only 7kms away. This beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops and the Villas Crete Holidays Tourist Office that is owned and run by Frankie Miles. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car. Villa amenities
