Villa Angeliki is ideally located on a hillside just 500m from the centre of Kokkino Horio village with its tangle of higgledy-piggledy lanes with traditional white washed houses, fantastic (and very friendly) family run taverna, and well stocked mini market, and only 4km from the seaside village of Almyrida where the white sand beaches shelve gently into the crystal clear aquamarine water and are encircled by a number of excellent beachfront tavernas and cafes. Thanks to its elevated position the villa enjoys cooling summer breezes that come in off the bay, and panoramic views over the village rooftops to the sparkling blue sea and the majestic white mountains.

Both inside and out there is no shortage of space in which to unwind. The sleeping accommodation lends itself perfectly to larger groups or to families with differing age groups. The lower ground floor is simply furnished and may be best suited to family members who require more privacy, or to children and teenagers who can make as much noise as they like without disturbing their parents. Whilst the villa is superbly priced for large parties during high season when it is always rented with all 3 floors included, our low and mid season prices, when Villa Angeliki can be rented with either 3 or 4 bedrooms, make this property easily accessible to couples and small families who want value for money and effortless access to local amenities and beaches.

Tasteful furnishings adorn the spacious interiors that total 204m2 when the 84m2 lower ground level is included. Flowing easily from one room to the next the villa has an easy and welcoming atmosphere and is well suited to relaxed summer living. Villa Angeliki (which means "angelic" in Greek) was built in 2005 and combines traditional Cretan cypress wood doors, windows and shutters with many modern comforts. To ensure a completely stress-free holiday, the thoughtful owners have equipped the villa with WIFI internet access, 2 TV's (one of which is just a monitor for one of the DVD players), satellite TV, 2 DVD players, a stereo with a CD player, a cooker, a large fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave, a coffee machine, a kettle, a toaster, a full kitchen inventory including place settings for 10, a washing machine, and air conditioning units in the 3 upstairs bedrooms. The lower ground floor stays naturally cool and is equipped with fans. The A/C units also double up as heaters, and there is a wood-burning stove in the living room for the cooler nights early and late season. There is solar powered hot water or a back-up immersion heater, a large gated, private parking area, and a barbeque. Even your entertainment needs have been catered for with a selection of books, CD’s, and DVD’s in the living room.

The living room area and 2 of the upstairs bedrooms offer direct access onto an array of open and covered balconies and terraces which have the choice of sun or shade, and can accommodate al-fresco family meals, privately catching the rays on the upstairs terrace which is an undeniable suntrap, or moments of solitude quietly reading a book away from the rest of the group. All of the balconies and terraces look directly down on to the pool, and then over a small solar farm and quaint village to Souda Bay glistening in the distance. At the end of a long, hot summer's day, what could be more delightful than savouring a glass of something chilled whilst watching the gold, red and pink hues of the glorious sunsets that Kokkino Horio is famous for.

Very well equipped with an ample supply of garden furniture such as tables, chairs, umbrellas and sun-loungers the outside is sure to be the focal point of your holiday enjoyment. The private pool entices you to take a refreshing dip whilst the separate family-friendly and shallow children's section will be much appreciated by younger family members and the less confident swimmers amongst you. The colourful 2600m2 garden has plenty of space for both sun worshippers and for children who like to run around and play. The lower terrace below the pool area has been left completely natural with wild flowers in the spring and rocky outcrops with almond trees, but closer to the villa the garden has been landscaped with gravelled areas and rockeries and is home to a number of typically Mediterranean flowering shrubs including: sweet scented jasmine, morning glory, oleander, cacti, geraniums, callistemon (bottle brush), as well as Washingtonian palms, date palm, olive, peach and pear trees.

Villa Angeliki is excellent value accommodation that offers a lovely escape from the crowds whilst being perfectly situated for easy forays to the beaches and many amenities in Almyrida or Chania Town, or to the many sites that Crete has to offer.

Villa Location

Kokkino Horio taverna and mini market are only 6 minutes walk from Villa Angeliki. The family-run taverna is shaded by weeping willow trees, has good food, and during the summer months there are occasional live Cretan music nights at the taverna, which are a lot of fun. Kokkino Horio (“red village” in Greek) was the main village set for the film “Zorba the Greek”. There are little whitewashed houses and narrow streets that wind around the village centre. At the village kafenion you can find older locals who were used as extras in the film, and who will happily show you photos of themselves with Anthony Quinn. Just 10 minutes walk from the villa is the famous glass blowing workshop. Here you can eat at the excellent, organic taverna or watch recycled glass being blown in the traditional manner into amazingly beautiful products including lampshades, ornaments, decanters, plates and bowls. The Retreat Taverna is on the outskirts of the village and has good food and panoramic views. Villa Angeliki is just 8 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is an arcade/cafe with pool tables and games machines, a chldren's activity centre, a scuba diving centre, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, boat trips, private boat hire, big game fishing, horse riding, private sightseeing flights in a light aircraft, waterskiing, and guided walking tours and coach tours. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 45 minutes away by car.
