Sleek, sexy, and deliciously modern, Villa Zeus Bay is a glass-encased architectural gem embraced by the arms of north-western Crete’s inimitably evocative land and seascapes. Dramatically set on a manicured 4000m2 plot surrounded by native scrub and craggy coastline, and white caps glistening like diamonds atop the mirrored Aegean Sea, this secluded and utterly chic three bedroom multi-level retreat is the quintessence of quiet luxury. A brand new magazine-worthy property that also manages to invoke a warm and homey vibe, the spacious residence is suffused in serene color -- pearly grays punctuated by radiant amethyst and lilac hues -- and is invitingly kitted with plush furnishings and top-of-the-line amenities, including under-floor cooled or heated tiling. Great walls of translucent windows and doors reveal panoramic sea and mountain views from every room, with nature’s splendors merging seamlessly into an elegantly restful living environment.

Verdant lawns offset sculptured rock and flower gardens that kiss the sloping hillside, a scattering of distant red-roofed houses visible amid the otherwise virgin landscape. Grand stone-paved patios ensconce a 40 square meter infinity swimming pool with steps and a shallow child-friendly adjacent area, as well as heating via heat pump for an extra fee in June and September, its glistening waters melting like sapphires into the endless sea beyond. Delicate breeze wafting like whispers from a Grecian Goddess co-mingle with the chatter of birds and cicadas to create a harmonious symphony that echoes through this otherwise silent sanctuary.

Furnished vista terraces abut each of the home’s three levels, and a fashionably outfitted pergola-covered cabana (with two large 3-seater couches and coffee table) skirts a large dining table and barbecue area to create a comfortable exterior lounge. Sun beds and umbrellas edge the pool while a sand pit/boules court, outdoor table tennis and basketball net, and two astro-turfed areas (great for kids to play) further inspires countless hours of open-air recreation and relaxation.

Completed in May 2014, and updated regularly since then, every up-to-date fitting, appliance, ornamental and functional element contained within this spectacular contemporary villa reflects the owner’s exacting aesthetic and exceptionally high standards. It is clear upon arrival that love and pride dictated this project and infuses this blue ribbon show piece from top to toe -- from the fresh decor of the rooftop patio to the furnished basement/home theater/games room replete with projector and sliding cinema screen alongside a convertible football/air hockey table; from the custom cabinetry and subzero refrigerator that highlights the large kitchen to the luxuriant bedding and handcrafted wardrobes that define the sleeping quarters; from the fact that none of the bedrooms share connecting walls to that ensure privacy between the guests to the mosquito screens and backup air-conditioning that guarantees comfort; from the free satellite TV that provides entertainment and the wireless internet that affords convenience -- everything in this home has been carefully considered, thoughtfully chosen, and fastidiously executed.

This is a property that fuels the senses and stirs the imagination, so deliriously calming and private (the closest house is 400m away) it’s easy to forget that life exists beyond the mechanized decorative iron entry gate. But less than a kilometer away (perhaps a 20 minute stroll though olive groves) the historic hamlet of Plaka offers a small grocery store and selection of quaint tavernas while sea-front restaurants, curio and convenience shops, and an alluring ribbon of sandy beach awaits just one kilometer further in the bustling coastal village of Almyrida. You may never want to leave this halcyon haven. But if you do, Crete’s bounty beckons.

***The entire villa features under-floor heating/cooling tiles and backup A/C units in each room.

Villa Accommodation

Ground Floor (0 steps from the driveway and pool terrace): open plan living room, dining area, and kitchen, 1 half guest washroom/toilet, 1 bedroom with en-suite shower room. Accessing the property through an embellished electric iron gate that is met by a stone-paved driveway and covered carport, the villa’s front entry unfolds in an immense open-plan living/dining/kitchen area encircled by grand sea/mountain view windows and plate glass doors. Dominated by a rich plum-toned L-shape ultra-suede couch fronted by a sleek two-tier one-drawer silver-gray wood-grained coffee table, the living room also features a coordinating low glass-shelved entertainment unit on which speakers and a DVD player sit beneath a 42 inch wall mounted flat screen TV. A telescope occupies one corner of the room for viewing the incandescent star-pocked nights. Straight ahead an ultra-modern decorative wall-affixed electric fireplace provides ambience and focus between wide walls of shuttered glass doors that open to the pool and grounds. To the left, a smart steel gray laminated wood grained dining table and six high-back jewel-toned upholstered chairs boast equally awesome pool/sea/mountain vistas. A breakfast bar with three chrome/plum-toned short-back stools divide the dining and kitchen area which features stainless steel appliances including a wide American style subzero fridge freezer, coffee and espresso machines, kettle, juicer, microwave, toaster, 4-burner ceramic hob stove/oven combo, washing machine and dishwasher. Custom pearl-gray and white-laminated cabinets pervade the kitchen and hold a full range of culinary tools and dishware. A window perched above the sink looks upon the emerald lawn, distant hills and car port while a sliding glass door to the left opens to the huge stone-tiled patio, covered lounge/barbecue area, and infinity pool.

Turning left from the front door, beside two 17 step marble staircases that variously lead to the second floor bedrooms or basement home theater/game room, a short hallway deposits you in an en suite queen bedroom with deluxe wood-framed bed fronting a bank of windows, matching side tables with contemporary chrome lamps, and framed wall mirror over a wooden vanity shelf with cream-hued/chrome stool. A sprawling built-in white/chrome wardrobe faces sliding glass doors that lead to a private sea-view balcony containing two white wicker chairs and matching glass-topped coffee table. The attached en-suite shower room features modern plexiglass-encased rain shower, textural gray/cream-colored decorative tiles, a toilet, and wall mirror above a gray counter-topped/ceramic sink combo.

A half guest bathroom with sink/toilet/vanity is imprinted with a similarly muted color scheme and can be found across the hall.

Top Floor (17 steps from ground floor): 1 master bedroom with queen size bed and en-suite shower room, 1 twin bedroom with 2 single beds/convertible king size bed with en-suite shower room, outside lounging area. A 17 step marble staircase leads to a window encased hallway with patio doors opening to large upstairs panoramic balcony bedecked with lavishly cushioned two and three seat wicker sofas and co-ordinating coffee tables. Two bedrooms are perched at opposite ends of the vestibule to ensure privacy. To the right, one finds a light wood floored airy room featuring two twin beds against a wall of windows. A single-drawer blonde wood nightstand with sleek table lamp sits between them while a custom wardrobe dominates another wall which is neighbored by a framed mirror, vanity shelf and stool. Across from the beds, a set of glass doors open to a furnished private sea view veranda. An attached en-suite bathroom is highlighted by a full bathtub/shower protected by clear plexi glass door. Contemporary fixtures and raised ceramic sink on taupe countertop is shadowed by large wall mirror while filtered light streams through a frosted window above toilet.

Down the narrow blonde-wood floored hallway – flanked on either side by glass doors and windows – a queen-sized bed sits at the heart of a large Master bedroom rife with clean lines and built-ins, including an entire wall of drawers and closets. Two light wood/chrome-handled bed tables hold modern reading lamps, an intriguing triangle wall is adorned with colorful art. Two sets of doors lead separately to a north-facing sea-vista balcony and southern hill-view terrace, both fully equipped with comfortable lounge chairs and tables for enjoying the remarkable views or lazing beneath the brilliant Mediterranean sun. This bedroom also features a vanity shelf, cream-colored chrome stool, and wood-framed mirror. A large pumice-toned shower with inside frosted glass window anchors the en-suite shower room, which is further kitted with toilet and ceramic sink on taupe counter with overhead mirror. A door leading from bathroom leads to yet another furnished personal balcony.

Roof Terrace (17 steps from the master bedroom): A vast roof terrace is blessed with all-day sunshine and breathtaking panoramic sea and mountain views and is furnished with 2 sun-beds with a small table, and 2 white wicker egg-shaped hanging swing chairs with orange cushions, and a small white table.

Lower level (17 steps from the ground floor), one finds the cheerful basement level home theater/game room with a selection of DVDs, puzzles, games, and books. Featuring a massive electric sliding screen and projector, a football table, a plush silver/gray velveteen double sofa bed with oversized lilac and lavender throw pillows, two violet bean bag chairs, and sleek built-in shelving, this is a room where children and teenagers - if not the entire family - may get lost for hours. The sleeper couch can also comfortably accommodate two people.

Landscaped Gardens. On the main level, verdant artificial grassy areas provide a safe zone for the kids to play and complement the sprawling designer rock and flower gardens that dress the grounds. A large 7-step bi-level stone-paved patio boasts unobstructed bay and mountain views and embraces the 40 square meter double-edged infinity pool (with internal steps and separate child-friendly shallow area) which is edged by multiple sun beds, umbrellas, and hot/cold shower. A covered pergola/gazebo provides comfortable seating with two plush three-seater couches and correlating coffee table. A gas BBQ allows for outdoor cooking while a large rectangle wood-planked dining table with six snug chairs invites alfresco dining. The grounds also feature a sand pit/boules court (with a full set of boules), regulation-sized outdoor table tennis, and a basketball net.

Villa Location

Plaka village square is only 1.2km from Zeus Bay Villa and is a 15-20 minute walk along a quiet country track. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets just off the mulberry tree lined square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 6 excellent tavernas, 2 well stocked mini markets (including 1 which specialises in English and Asian products),a local products shop,  a hardware shop and 7 cafes. Zeus Bay Villa is just 5 minutes by car to the lovely village of Almyrida which is built around a crescent shaped sandy beach. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are many excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there are paddle board and pedalo rentals, a scuba diving office,  and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. Other activities in the local area that we can provide contact details for include horse riding, boat trips, private boat hire, big game fishing charters, private astronomy evenings at your villa, private sight-seeing flights in a light aircraft, and guided coach or walking tours. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 40 minutes away by car.

Villa Rental Prices

The rental prices include a Welcome Pack, Linen and Towels, Twice Weekly Cleaning, a Villa Information Book, and a villa copy of the Guide Book "Crete on the Road" by Frankie Miles.

*** As of January 01, 2024, the Greek government have replaced the old “bed tax” with a new tax that is applied to all stays in short-term rental accommodation in Greece. The Climate Resilience Levy is a response to the devastating forest fires and floods that Greece has experienced in recent years, with the government hoping to generate extra funding that will go towards financing reconstruction, supporting victims, and increasing the country’s defences against future natural disasters.

The owners of all short-term rental accommodation are legally obliged to collect the Climate Resilience Levy as a separate tax for all overnight stays (per villa) as follows:
€10.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.

We will collect the Climate Levy with your final balance payment and it will be clearly itemised on your Booking Confirmation.

Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax/levy is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.
