Villa Andreas is a recently revamped modern home that is set on a quiet cul-de-sac within close proximity to the area’s star attractions. An easy walk to the excellent tavernas and well stocked mini markets dotting the charismatic village square of Plaka, and a few minutes by car to the family friendly sandy beaches, shops, restaurants, and vibrancy of nearby Almyrida and Kalives, this villa is a popular option for couples and small families seeking quality, comfort, convenience, and first class amenities within a relaxed Mediterranean village.
Villa Andreas is a welcoming two storey house with a soothing atmosphere that is immediately apparent upon going through the pretty, olive tree flanked main door. The villa changed hands in 2015 and the new owners have spent much time and considerable expense updating the entire property with an artistic flair and great attention to detail. The light and airy interiors now boast smart contemporary décor with elegant furnishings – the majority of which are fresh white painted wood. Cheerful yellow cushions on the fashionable grey corner couch, and a matching yellow armchair make a colourful splash that bring to life the open plan living area that comprises a good sized lounge and dining room with an archway that leads through to a brand new fully fitted modern kitchen. On the first floor, the eye-catching double bedroom has doors to a furnished balcony that offers a view over the neighbouring houses on the terraced hillside below, to the electric blue waters of Souda Bay and the Akrotiri peninsula in the distance. The adjacent twin bedroom has 2 windows – one of which offers this same appealing sea vista, whilst the other overlooks nearby village houses to silvery green olive groves. Completing the restful accommodation are 2 blue and white fully tiled bathrooms (one on each floor) which have nautical style ornaments such as starfish, anchors, and sea horses, in keeping with the villa’s wonderful location – just a 3 minute drive, or a 15 - 20 minute stroll from the beaches and small fishing harbour in Almyrida.
Many modern comforts have been provided for at Villa Andreas including Free WIFI, a ceramic hob, built-in oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, a washing machine; a TV with satellite channels, a DVD player, a stereo system, locally sourced cypress wood doors, window frames and shutters; and air conditioning units in the living room and 2 bedrooms. The A/C units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season, and the water is heated by either environmentally friendly solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.

Ground floor (0 steps from the parking area to the living room, 2 steps from the pool terrace, half a step from the parking area to the front terrace): Open plan living room, kitchen and dining area, 1 shower room, a large covered terrace.
The lounge area has a grey fabric L-shaped corner couch that opens out into a sofa bed, vibrant yellow cushions, a yellow fabric armchair, 2 white side tables with lamps, a wall mounted 32” flat screen TV, below which is a small white table that houses the DVD player, satellite receiver box, and stereo, white wall cubes that house a selection of ornaments, a white bookcase with books and ornaments, a standard lamp, an off white dining table with 6 matching chairs, an off white side board with ornaments, above which is a large mirror with a silver frame, cream hurricane lamps. The living room has double doors that open out onto a terrace that is shaded by a pergola covered with sail material, and is equipped with dining table with a glass top, 6 matching chairs with cream cushions, a 4 person couch, a 2 person couch, and a coffee table – all made from matching dark brown rattan. The living room also has windows that look out to greenery at the front and side of the villa. An archway leads to the modern kitchen area that is fully equipped and includes white cupboards, wooden work tops, and inox appliances: a dishwasher, a ceramic hob and built in oven, a cooker hood with extractor fan, a large fridge/freezer, and a microwave oven. The kitchen window looks out to the side terrace, and there are double French doors that open out onto the large covered dining and lounging terrace. The shower room is fully tiled with white and blue tiles and there is a shower with glass doors, a white washbasin, a mirrored cabinet, a toilet, and a frosted window to the pool terrace.
First floor (17 steps up from the ground floor): 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, 1 full bathroom and an open sea view terrace.
The double bedroom has a wooden double bed, 1 white bedside cabinet with a lamp, a white wardrobe with hanging rail, shelf, and white wire metal basket drawers, a white dressing table, a stool, a mirror, white diaphanous curtains, and a pretty white and pink floral bedspread with 4 co-ordinating cushions. There are double French doors that open out onto a balcony which has gorgeous views to the sea, Akrotiri peninsular, olive groves and nearby houses, and is equipped with a dark brown rattan coffee table and 2 matching armchairs which have comfortable dark brown cushions. The main bathroom has blue and white tiles and a bathroom suite comprising a full bath with shower attachment and a glass screen, a wash basin, a mirrored cabinet, a toilet and a frosted window. The hallway has a window that has a view out over the pool to houses, olive groves, Souda Bay, the Akrotiri Peninsular, and Aptera Fort in the distance . The twin bedroom has 2 wooden single beds with wall mounted overhead reading lamps, a white bedside cabinet, a white wardrobe with hanging rail, shelf, and white wire metal basket drawers, a full length mirror, and white diaphanous curtains. This bedroom has a window which looks down to the sea, and a second window that overlooks the front of the property and the villa opposite to olive groves.
The pool can be accessed from within the house via the ground floor dining and lounging terrace or externally through a small gate just beyond the home’s main entrance (which is actually on the side of the house). A path leads to a corner with a coffee table and chairs, and then through the gate and down 2 steps to the pool terrace and 17.5 m2 pool (with four internal steps). Encased by a low local stone/concrete wall embellished with terracotta pots with palms and yuccas, and a custom made wooden fence, the stone paved area is furnished with 6 blue sun-beds and 2 matching blue sun umbrellas.
The main square in Plaka is only 150m from The Villa Andreas and is still very much the focal point of village life. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 7 excellent tavernas, 1 wonderful Italian restaurant, 6 cafes, 2 well stocked mini markets (including 1 which specialises in English and Asian products), 1 shop with local products and gifts, a hardware shop, and a real estate agency.. The lovely village of Almyrida is only 1.3km from Villa Andreas , and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 11 tavernas, 6 cafés, 2 bars, 3 bakery/coffee shops, 1 wonderful jewellery shop, 1 ladies clothes shop, 6 mini-markets, 6 gift shops, 1 butcher, 1 fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, 1 off license/drinks shop, 1 pharmacy, 1 nail spa, 1 hair dresser, 4 real estate offices, 3 cash machines, and a 24 hour kiosk. Also in Almyrida there is a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, pedalo hire, a scuba diving office, a young children’s play centre/crèche with babysitting, a space with pool tables and a variety of games machines, pedalo rentals, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, private boat rentals, horse riding, big game fishing, private sightseeing flights in a light aircraft, boat trips, waterskiing, and guided coach or walking tours. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio and lace making in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

Plaka Square and Almyrida are within walking distance, and there is a limited bus service from Almyrida into Chania, but we highly recommend car hire in order to explore the varied regions of the area.
