From its magnificent position on a cliff top immediately above the sea Villa Aqua Vista can lay claim to the most spectacular, panoramic views on this, or any shoreline. With an outlook that takes in a 200º sweeping stretch of coastline and countryside that includes Souda Bay in its entirety, Karga Island, The Akrotiri Peninsula, an 18th Century Turkish Fort, and the impressive White Mountains, seaside locations do not come any finer than this. As if the superlative views were not enough, Villa Aqua Vista is easily one of the most private, stylish and comfortable homes that we have in our portfolio of beautiful properties, and is just a stone’s throw from the beach at Kera, or a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the tavernas, shops, sandy beaches, and excellent amenities in the delightful family friendly village of Almyrida.
Villa Aqua Vista boasts many much sought after features because the owners have sympathetically planned the layout of the villa and pool terrace over 3 levels in order to follow the lie of the land and take advantage of the mature pine trees that flank the plot, thus giving the guests a high degree of privacy and some peaceful areas with natural shade. In addition, the coastal location means that the entire property often benefits from the welcome cooling breezes that come off the sea in the long, hot, summer months. The villa naturally takes its name from the adjacent crystal clear, resplendent waters of Souda Bay that range in colour from bright turquoise, to deep teal, to an almost luminous aquamarine, and that provide the breathtaking backdrop for this gorgeous property.
The carefully designed living accommodation is arranged over two independently accessed, terrace skirted floors, which may appeal to families with teenagers or grandparents, and/or friends who like to holiday together whilst having their own separate spaces. Bright, welcoming, spacious, and meticulously kitted out with particularly comfortable contemporary furnishings, the emphasis has been placed on ease of living whilst showcasing the remarkable sea views. Every modern amenity has been provided for including free WIFI, beautiful, fully equipped kitchens, fully tiled shower rooms, air conditioning, a washing machine, dishwashers, satellite TV’s, DVD players, and stereos with I-pod/I-phone inputs, as well as many thoughtful extras such as hairdryers, pool towels, a selection of DVD’s, books, playing cards, board games, and binoculars.
Both floors of Villa Aqua Vista have large open plan living room/kitchen/dining rooms with huge picture windows and double French doors that open out onto covered and open wrap-around terraces that have a choice of sun or shade. Equipped with dining tables and chairs, and comfy armchairs and coffee tables, these sea and mountain-view terraces are the ideal spot for parents to keep a watchful eye on the swimming activity in the shimmering pool below, whilst chilling out and admiring the incredible vista.
The light and airy interiors melt seamlessly into the outside areas where our guests tend to spend most of their holiday time relaxing. Fully enclosed with fences and low, natural stone walls, the 4000m2 plot is set just below an occasionally used rural track that conveniently leads through olive groves to the beaches, shops, and tavernas in Almyrida – just 700m away. Only the gated driveway, the private parking area, part of the dining terrace, and the rear of the top floor of the villa are visible from the track, but front terraces and the pool area all hidden from view. The vast array of different seating areas dotted around the pretty and shady garden make moments of quiet solitude away from the rest of the family easy to achieve if needed. Cleverly landscaped, lush bougainvillea, oleanders, Date and Washingtonian palms have been planted close to the villa, whilst the outskirts of the large plot of land have been left in their natural state. A ramp and a few steps take you down to a tree-ringed, stone-paved patio (immediately outside the middle level kitchen door) that features a Weber gas barbeque, and a long dining table and 8 chairs which are sure to be the venue for many a congenial al-fresco meal. Two other outside dining areas can be found on the wrap-around terraces, but whichever one you choose to eat at, you are sure to enjoy not only the delicious, fresh local produce but also the incomparable scenery and dramatic, incandescent sunsets, thanks to the villas south and westerly aspect.
The inviting, mosaic-tiled pool takes centre stage on the lower terrace which is a private suntrap bordered by olive trees and flower beds planted with leylandii, geraniums, hibiscus, birds of paradise bushes, purple flowered polygala shrubs, and other typically Mediterranean flora. Very unusually for Crete, for the times at the start and end of the season when the pools can be decidedly chilly, the pool at Villa Aqua Vista can be heated for an extra fee to a minimum of 26 degrees centigrade, except first thing in the morning and at night when the temperature cannot be guaranteed. Furnished with a table and 4 chairs, sun-beds, and sun-umbrellas for shade if wanted, it is easy to understand why so many guests find it hard to drag themselves away from the 50m2 pool which is the ideal place from which to survey the ever-changing panorama to which the accompanying photos cannot possibly do justice.
With Almyrida, and Kera Cove Beach (a little gem that rarely features on maps) so close at hand, yet unobtrusive, and all of the vital facilities that make a luxurious home-away-from-home holiday retreat, Villa Aqua Vista offers you a wealth of options for a fantastic and truly unforgettable holiday.

The beach at Kera is only 500 metres from the Villa Aqua Vista. It is a quieter beach with just a small kantina for food. The water is shallow and there is a choice of pebbles or sand. The lovely village of Almyrida is only a 700m walk down a dirt track from the villa, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 13 excellent tavernas, 6 cafés, 2 bars, 2 bakeries, 1 Italian ice cream shop, 1 jewellery shop, 5 mini-markets, 7 gift shops, an off-license, a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, a butcher, a nail spa, a body and wellness spa, a hair dresser, 1 kiosk, a children’s nursery and play area, and 3 real estate offices. Also in Almyrida there is a space with pool tables and a variety of games machines, a scuba diving centre, a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, private boat rental, boat trips, horse riding, private sightseeing flights in a light airplane, big game fishing, and guided walking or coach tours. The village of Kalives is 3km away and has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort that has many amenities but is far removed from brash tourism. Kalives stretches along 4 kilometres of sandy beaches, and the narrow main street is lined with old white washed houses. Two rivers run join the sea at Kalives, and there is a traditional fishing boat harbour at the eastern end of the village. There is an abundance of excellent tavernas and cafes lining the seafront, and there are shops of every description. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, and lace makers in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 30 minutes away by car.
