Walking is one of the best ways to explore the island because it allows you to stray away from the resorts and cities in order to participate in Crete’s dynamic history and natural beauty and at the same time to experience true Cretan hospitality.

Villas Crete Holidays can offer some unique walks in the Apokoronas region (the greenest region of Crete), some hidden gorges (as well as the the more well known Samaria and Imbros Gorges), and wonderful trails in the mountains. Like most places in Crete has previously been difficult to find nice walking paths on your own because good maps are not available, but this has all been remedied by Anna and Bob. Anna and Bob Scott are a retired couple who have spent many years tirelessly putting together 6 booklets each featuring 5 different walks. With the “There and Back with Anna and Bob” series of guides you will find places that really are off the beaten track and you will discover many different places including gorges, old churches and monasteries, orange, avocado and olive groves, rivers, wells, and traditional villages. Each of these booklets costs 3.00 Euros – all of which is donated to the Royal National Institute for the Blind and the money is specifically used to help the Sunshine Homes for disabled children. Over the years Anna and Bob have raised more than 5.000 British Pounds for this charity and we hope that with your help this year’s total will be better than ever. All of the Anna and Bob booklets are available from the Villas Crete Holidays representative.

If you would like a guided walk either to the mountains (it would be very ill-advised to venture to the mountains without a guide) or in and around the Apokoronas area we can arrange for you to go out with a very experienced guide who can not only take you to some stunningly beautiful out of the way places but also give you detailed information about birds, the Cretan wildlife, wild flowers and vegetation. These walks can be designed to be as long or short, and as easy or as difficult as you would like. Our resort representative, Susanna Friel, is particularly knowledgeable about the local fauna and flora and she will be happy to recommend the best nature walks for you.
