Villa Ifigenia is a modern villa that was finished to a high standard in 2006. The villa is located on the top of a hill just behind the seaside village of Almyrida, which affords it gorgeous views of the sea and the surrounding olive clad hills. Villa Ifigenia is set above the adjacent villa (Villa Kalypso) and has its own grounds, pool and private parking area. The villa belongs to a friendly local family who have a quaint gift shop in Almyrida, and whose sister owns the popular “Thalami” seafood taverna in the village.
The villa has been thoughtfully designed to ensure that all rooms have balconies or terraces that take in the outstanding views. Both floors of the house have huge sea facing terraces where one can sit and watch the ferries going to and from Athens, or the lights twinkling at night from the Akrotiri Peninsula on the opposite side of Souda Bay. The lower terrace is covered, and the upper terrace is open, so that you can choose either sun or shade. The villa is a modern grey colour with dark green aluminium doors, windows and shutters throughout.
The furniture, doors and cupboards throughout the inside of the villa are traditionally Cretan, and made locally from a warm coloured wood. The upstairs rooms have incorporated the lovely high wood beamed ceilings that are also very traditional. All modern comforts have been provided for at Villa Ifigenia, including free unlimited WIFI internet access, satellite TV, DVD and CD players, dishwasher and washing machine, and air conditioning units in all the bedrooms and the living room. The A/C units also double up as heaters for the cooler nights at the start and end of the season. The water is heated by either solar panel or a back-up immersion heater.
From 2020 onwards a 4th bedroom and a 3rd bathroom have been added to Villa Ifigenia and the villa can be rented with either 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, or 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The current photos do not show the new bedroom and bathroom, but we hope to update the photos in April 2020.
The pool is positioned on the side of the hill and enjoys lovely paoramic views of the area. The pool terrace is next to a small rural road, but has been screened with bamboo, oleander bushes and small olive trees to give privacy. A small natural stone wall runs around the large front lawn that is perfect for children to play on and is equipped with a wooden slide, see-saw, and playhouse. . The main garden has been planted with yucca trees, Washingtonian palms, and roses, and there is a vegetable garden with peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, aubergine, courgettes and melons. When the fruit/vegetables are ripe the kind owner gives them to the guests. Ample outdoor furniture, including a stone barbeque and a portable iron barbeque has been supplied in order for you to fully relax and enjoy your holiday.
You may not feel like leaving this lovely villa, but if you do decide to go to the beach, or have a delicious meal in one of the village’s four exceptional tavernas, you can easily walk downhill to the centre of Almyrida in approximately 8-10 minutes. It is a little harder coming uphill on the way back, but you will be so relaxed from the wine at dinner that you may not even notice!
Villa Accommodation
First floor (17 steps up from the ground floor): 1 double bedroom, 1 twin bedroom, 1 full bathroom and a large open terrace. As this terrace is not covered, it is also a wonderful, and completely private place to bring the sun loungers. This main bathroom also houses the washing machine, and has a frosted window. The double bedroom has a double bed, 2 bedside tables with reading lamps, a dressing table, stool and wall mirror, built-in wardrobes, and matching green and gold curtains and bedspread. Villa Location
The lovely village of Almyrida is only 750m from Villa Ifigenia , and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 11 excellent tavernas, 6 cafés, 2 bars, 2 bakeries, a jewellery shop, 4 mini-markets, 7 gift shops, an off-license, a butcher's shop, a pharmacy, an organic fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, 1 Italian ice cream shop, a hair dresser, a nail spa, 3 real estate offices, a 24 hour kiosk, and the part time Villas Crete Holidays representative for tourist information, boat trips, private boat hire, big game fishing, a private evening of astronomy and mythology in your villa, private sight seeing flights in a light aircraft, horse riding, and guided walking and coach tours. Also in Almyrida there is an arcade/cafe with pool tables and games machines, a scuba diving office, table tennis, paddle board and pedalo rentals, and a water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans. A few minutes by car from Villa Ifigenia , there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, and lace makers in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

Villa Rental Prices
All prices shown are per week in Euros for the villa with either 3 or 4 bedrooms.
*** As of January 01, 2024, the Greek government have replaced the old “bed tax” with a new tax that is applied to all stays in short-term rental accommodation in Greece. The Climate Resilience Levy is a response to the devastating forest fires and floods that Greece has experienced in recent years, with the government hoping to generate extra funding that will go towards financing reconstruction, supporting victims, and increasing the country’s defences against future natural disasters.
The owners of all short-term rental accommodation are legally obliged to collect the Climate Resilience Levy as a separate tax for all overnight stays (per villa) as follows:
€10.00 per night on stays between March 01 and October 31, and €4.00 per night on stays between November 01 and February 28/29.
We will collect the Climate Levy with your final balance payment and it will be clearly itemised on your Booking Confirmation.
Whilst we understand the potential budget concerns of our guests, this tax/levy is beyond our control and we encourage our guests to see this as a way of contributing to the protection of the planet and the beautiful area where they are holidaying.
